싯딤에 머물러 있을 때 이스라엘 남자들이 바알브올의 우상을 섬기며 미디안 여인과 음행했다. 하나님이 염병으로 2만4천명을 죽였다. 비느하스가 하나님을 위해 질투하여 간음자를 죽였다.

이스라엘 남자 시므리와 미디안 여인 고스비를 죽이자 염병이 그쳤다. 하나님의 명예를 위해 질투한 비느하스와 그의 후손은 제사장의 직분을 받았다. 하나님을 위해 질투하는 자가 되라!
결단과 적용
하나님의 이름의 명예를 위해 질투하는 자는 우상숭배와 간음의 죄를 십자가에 못박아 죽여버린다. 미디안의 제사장 발람 한 사람의 죄가 미디안 전체에 퍼졌다. 발람의 길을 따르는 자는 나귀에게도 책망을 받는다. 개나 돼지처럼 사는 자가 멸망의 종들이다. 물없는 샘이요 광풍에 밀려가는 안개같이 어둠에 산다. 비느하스처럼 우상과 영육간의 간음을 못박아 죽이면 살리라!

Observation and meditation on the text
When Israel was staying in Shittim, the men began to involve in Baal of Peor idol worship and sexual immorality with Midianite women. God killed 24,000 Israelites by the plague. Phinehas was jealous for the honor of God, and killed the adulterers.
I hear the voice of the Lord through QT
The plague against the Israelites was stopped when Phinehas killed Zimiri the Israelite man and Kozbi the Midianite woman. Phinehas and his descendants were appointed by God as priests because they were jealous for the honor of God. Be jealous for the honor of God!
Decisions and applications
If I am jealous for the honor of God, I will crucify my sins for idol worship and carnal and spiritual adultery against God. Balaam who was a Midianite sorcerer, one man’s sin of loving the wages of wickedness was contagious and spread to the entire Midianites. If I follow the way of Balaam, I may be chastised even by a donkey. If I follow the way of Balaam, I shall become a slave of depravity like a dog or a pig which returns to its vomit and to its wallowing in the mud. I may become a spring without water and mists driven by a storm, who is living in darkness. However, if I am jealous for the honor of God and crucify my desire for idol worship and carnal and spiritual adultery, I shall live.
