‘이해할 수 없을 때는 잠잠히 기다려라’  

본문관찰과 묵상

정혼한 마리아의 임신 소식을 접한 요셉은 그녀가 공적으로 정죄 받지 않도록 조용히 관계를 정리하려 했다. 그러나 주의 사자가 나타나 이 아이는 성령으로 잉태된 것이며, 이름을 '예수'라 하라 일러주었다. 이는 자기 백성을 그들의 죄에서 구원할 자이며, 이사야 선지자의 예언이 성취되는 사건이었다.

QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성

인간의 이성으로는 도저히 이해할 수 없는 일이라도, 하나님이 계획하신 일은 하나님이 친히 이루신다. 요셉과 마리아라는 통로를 통해 구세주를 보내신 것처럼, 지난 한 해 내게 일어난 이해할 수 없는 사건들 또한 하나님의 때에 그분의 뜻을 이루기 위한 과정임을 믿는다.

결단과 적용

의로운 사람 요셉은 주의 사자가 전한 말씀을 믿고 즉각 순종했다. 아내를 데려왔으나 아들을 낳기까지 동침하지 않는 절제와 경외함을 보였다. 나 또한 나를 향한 하나님의 뜻이 성취될 때까지, 비록 지금의 상황이 이해되지 않더라도 모든 것을 주님께 맡기며 순종하리라.  "나로 말미암아 너희를 욕하고 박해하고 거짓으로 너희를 거슬러 모든 악한 말을 할 때에는 너희에게 복이 있나니 기뻐하고 즐거워하라 하늘에서 너희의 상이 큼이라" (마 5:11-12) "우리가 알거니와 하나님을 사랑하는 자 곧 그의 뜻대로 부르심을 입은 자들에게는 모든 것이 합력하여 선을 이루느니라" (롬 8:28)

오늘의 기도

주님, 저는 저를 정죄하는 이들을 수없이 용서하고 인내하며 오늘까지 묵묵히 견뎌왔습니다. 아직 주님의 깊은 뜻을 다 알지는 못하지만, 끝까지 잠잠히 주님을 기다리겠습니다. 하나님의 뜻이 온전히 이루어지고 선포되는 그날까지, 제가 이 연단의 시간을 넉넉히 이기며 살아가게 하소서.

The Joseph Model: Silence Over Scandal

Faced with an impossible situation, Joseph chose mercy over public justice. He decided to divorce Mary quietly, refusing to let his confusion turn into cruelty. In that space of "perplexed silence," God spoke. Joseph’s story teaches us that when we reach the limit of our understanding, we are often at the threshold of a divine revelation. He was told of Jesus (the Savior) and Immanuel (God with us)—a promise that covered both his immediate fear and the world’s eternal need.

Reflection: Trusting the Unseen Plan

Often, the events in our lives and our churches feel incomprehensible. We look for reasons, but God offers us His presence. Just as the prophecy of Isaiah was fulfilled through Joseph’s quiet obedience, God’s purposes for us remain on track even when the path is obscured. My lack of understanding does not hinder God’s ability to work; my role is simply to remain faithful in the waiting.

Decisions and Applications

Choosing Righteous Endurance

Righteousness is not just following rules; it is following God into the unknown. I commit to Restraining the urge to defend myself: Following Joseph’s example of silence when faced with the judgment of others.

Active Waiting: Recognizing that silence isn't "doing nothing"—it is an act of spiritual endurance.

Obedience in the Dark: "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven." (Rom. 8:28).  "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." (Mt. 5:11-12). 

Prayer of Commitment

Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Joseph, who obeyed even when he was confused. I surrender my need to understand everything. I lay down my defenses against those who judge me and choose to forgive in silence. Let Your will be done in my life and my church. Strengthen me to endure until Your divine intervention brings all things into the light. Amen.
