‘Blessings on the Repentant’
Jonah 17–2:10
1. Observation and meditation on the text
First: When Jonah was thrown into the sea after confessing his sin, God prepared a great fish to save him.
Second: When he cried out to the Lord in prayer from the belly of the fish—a place like Sheol (hell)—he was filled with thanksgiving to God.
2. I hear the voice of the Lord through QT
Third: When Jonah confessed that he would obey the Lord and keep his vows, the Lord commanded the fish to vomit Jonah onto dry land.
The Lesson: God saves those who repent, even mobilizing nature and His creation to do so.
3. Decisions and applications
When I restore my life of repentance, God restores thanksgiving and prayer in my life. He rescues me, lifting me out of hellish circumstances and placing me back onto solid, dry ground.
Today's Prayer
Lord, Restore my thanksgiving and prayer as I restore my life of repentance. Rescue me from hellish situations and place my feet back on dry land. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
