‘천국백성의 특권과 의무’  

1. 본문 관찰과 묵상

무리들은 주로 자신의 육신적 유익을 채우기 위해 예수님을 따랐지만, 제자들은 주님의 말씀을 듣기 위해 그분 곁으로 나왔다. 산상수훈의 '팔복'은 예수님을 왕으로 모시는 제자 들이 이 땅과 저 천국에서 누릴 특권이다. 동시에 우리는 세상 속에서 소금과 빛으로 살아 가야 할 거룩한 의무를 부여 받았다.

2. 묵상을 통해 듣는 주님의 음성

제자로서 부여 받은 여덟 가지 정체성은 곧 천국 백성이 누리는 여덟 가지 복이다. 이 복은 나의 행위나 공로로 얻는 것이 아니다. 예수의 제자이자 천국 백성이 된 자들이 주님의 다스림 안에서 영원히 누리는 권세다. 이 특권을 받은 자는 세상 속에서 마땅히 소금과 빛 의 사명을 감당하며 살아야 한다.

3. 결단과 적용

소금은 부패를 막는 힘이 있고, 빛은 어둠을 물리치는 능력이 있다. 이 능력은 나에게서 나오는 것이 아니라 내 안에 계신 예수 그리스도의 능력이다.

• 말씀의 양식: 매일 참된 양식인 주님의 말씀을 먹고, 참된 음료인 예수의 보혈을 의지하며 산다 (요 6:53-56).

• 사귐의 영생: 영생은 유일하신 하나님과 그분이 보내신 예수 그리스도를 '아는 것(기노스코)' 이다 (요 17:3). 여기서 '안다'는 것은 인격적인 깊은 교제를 뜻한다. 말씀이 육신이 되어 오신 예수님과 깊이 교제할 때, 비로소 나는 소금의 맛과 빛의 생명력을 얻게 된다.

• 선한 영향력: 내 안에 계신 예수님으로 인해 오늘 하루도 세상에 선한 영향력을 끼치는 소금과 빛으로 살아가리라.

* 오늘의 기도

주님, 제가 소금의 맛을 잃지 않게 하소서. 저의 등불을 등경 위에 높이 두어 세상 사람들을 밝게 비추게 하소서. 맛을 잃어 사람들에게 짓밟히는 부끄러운 삶이 되지 않게 하소서.

오늘도 제가 그리스도의 향기이자 편지이며, 하늘나라의 대사가 되기를 원합니다. 사람들이 저의 삶을 보고 예수님을 궁금해하며 믿고 싶어지도록, 소금과 빛의 사명을 다하게 하소서. 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

‘Kingdom citizens’ privileges and duties’

Mt. 5:1-16

1. Observation and Meditation

While the crowds followed Jesus primarily to have their physical needs met, the disciples followed Him to obey His teachings. The "Eight Beatitudes" Jesus preached on the Mount are the blessings and privileges God declares over those who serve Him as King. However, these are more than just benefits; they are a challenge to the disciples to live out their identity as citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven while still here on earth.

2. Hearing the Lord’s Voice

The eight identities of Kingdom citizens are privileges I can enjoy right now. I am not blessed by God based on what I have done, but based on who I am as a citizen under His reign—both now on earth and in the heavenly kingdom to come. As a privileged disciple of Jesus Christ, I am called to live up to this identity by functioning as "salt and light" in this world.

3. Decisions and Applications

Salt has the power to prevent contamination and corruption, while light has the power to overcome darkness. This power does not come from me; it is the power of Jesus. To exercise this, I must "eat the true food" (His flesh/Word) and "drink the true drink" (His blood), as described in John 6:53–56.

Because the life of Jesus dwells within me, I enjoy eternal life here and now. As John 17:3 says, eternal life is "knowing" the only true God. In Greek, this word is ginosko, implying an intimate fellowship. Through this fellowship with the Word Incarnate, I truly come to know Jesus. Only through this intimacy can I exert a godly influence as salt and light. Today, I will rely on Christ residing in me to be a transformative presence in the world.

Today’s Prayer

Lord, help me to maintain my saltiness. Let me light a lamp and set it on a lampstand so that it may give light to everyone. Help me, Lord, not to be trampled underfoot by losing my saltiness or my light. Make me the fragrance of Christ, a letter from Jesus, and His ambassador to the world. When people see me, may they be encouraged to believe in You and join in the calling to live as salt and light. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
