‘약속한 것은 손해가 나도 지켜라’
본문관찰과 묵상
이스라엘은 기브온과 화평조약을 맺은지 3일후에 속았다는 것을 알았다. 먼 곳에 사는 백성이 아닌 죽여야 할 약속의 땅에 가까이 사 는 백성임을 알았다. 그러나 하나님 앞에서 한 약속을 지켜 살렸다.
QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
하나님 앞에서 화친조약을 맺고 죽이지 않기로 했기에 여호 수아는 그들을 살렸다. 그러나 그들이 속였기에 이스라엘을 위하여 나무 패는 자와 물 긷는 노예로 살게 했다. 기브온은 죽느니 노예로 사는 길을 택한 것이다 (신 20:10-11).
결단과 적용
‘여호와의 모든 백성 앞에서 나의 서원을 여호와께 갚으리로다 (시 15:4/116:14/116:18). 내가 속아서 한 약속도 지켜야 한다. 그러니 속기 전에 하나님께 묻고 살아야 한다. 나도 감쪽같이 속아 많은 고통을 당했지만 끝까지 약속은 지켰다. 나머지는 하나님이 공의와 정의로 판단하시리라.

Observation and meditation on the text
The Israelites realized that they were deceived by the Gibeonites 3 days later. They were not living in a far away from the promised land which was given to Israel by God to destroy. However, since they had a peace treaty with them before God, they must keep their promises.
I hear the voice of the Lord through QT
Joshua never killed the Gibeonites because he made a peace treaty with them before God. However, since they deceived the Israelites, they became the slaves of Israel as woodcutters and water carriers. The Gibeonites chose to live as slaves than to be destroyed by Israel (Deu. 20:10-11)
Decisions and applications
‘I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people’ (Ps. 15:4/116:14/116:18). I must keep any promises even though I made it because I was deceived. However, I learn that I must be very careful not to be deceived by asking to God. I was deceived by one man but I kept my promises with him by not revealing his evil deceptions even though I was suffering in a great deal. I do believe that the Lord will bring about judgment with his justice and righteousness in God’s due time.
