‘Pray based on God’s promises’

1 Chronicles 17:16-27

1. Observation and meditation on the Text

David was deeply moved by how God honored someone as humble as him. He gave thanks for God’s promise to establish his dynasty forever. Furthermore, David was inspired to pray by remembering how God drove out the nations from the Promised Land to redeem Israel and adopt them as His own people.

2. I hear the voice of the Lord through QT

David prayed in faith, anchoring his requests in God’s covenant. He asked God to fulfill His promise and keep his dynasty steadfast so that his house might enjoy God’s blessings forever.

3. Decision and Application

God ultimate answered David’s prayer through the coming of Jesus Christ, a descendant of David. Therefore, I will also pray by faith based on God’s promises. I am confident that I have eternal life in Jesus Christ, who is the Savior for Gentiles as well.

*Today’s prayer

Lord, help me abandon vain and self-centered prayers. Teach me to pray according to Your promises alone, trusting that You will answer. Lord, grant me the grace to live an honorable life that brings Glory to You as I experience Your answered prayers. In Jesus’ name, I pray.  Amen.
