‘제자들의 올라가는 길과 예수의 내려가는 길’
1. 본문 관찰과 묵상
제자들은 누가 더 큰지 경쟁하며 올라가는 길을 택했다. 예수는 반대로 어린아이 같이 겸손히 내려가는 길을 택했다. 천국에서 큰 자는 낮은 곳으로 내려가는 자다.
2. QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
낮은 곳으로 내려가는 자는 죄에 대해 죽어 반응이 없다. 대신 하나님의 뜻과 말씀에 반응하여 죄는 죽이고 주님이 기뻐하는 일에 전심한다.
3. 결단과 적용
오늘도 십자가 지고 내려가는 길을 택한다. “아무든지 나를 따라 오려거든 자기를 부인하고 자기 십자가 를 지고 나를 좆을 것이니라” (마16:24). 경쟁하며 올라가는 길을 택하지 않고 주님 가신 길 내려가는 길을 오늘도 가리라.
오늘의 기도
“교만은 패망의 선봉이요 거만한 마음은 넘어짐의 앞잡이니라” (잠 16:18). “도가니는 은을 풀무는 금을 연단하거니와 여호와는 마음을 연단하시느니라” (잠 17:3). “사람의 마음의 교만 은 멸망의 선봉이요 겸손은 존귀의 앞잡이니라” (잠 18:12). 주여, 내 마음을 연단하사 오늘도 낮은 곳으로 내려가며 살게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다.
‘The Disciples’ Upward Mobility vs. Jesus’ Downward Mobility’
Mt. 18:1-9
1. Observation and Meditation
In Matthew 18:1-9, the disciples seek upward mobility, competing to be the "greatest" in the kingdom. In stark contrast, Jesus models downward mobility through humility. He teaches that the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven is not the one who climbs over others, but the one who humbles themselves like a child. True spiritual maturity is found in descending, not ascending.
2. Hearing the Voice of the Lord
Through this text, I hear the Lord calling me to a life of surrender. When I embrace downward mobility, I stop reacting to sin because I have died to it. Instead of defending my ego or competing for status, I respond only to God’s will and His Word. To please the Lord, I must continually crucify my sinful nature on the cross with Jesus.
3. Decisions and Applications
Today, I choose downward mobility by taking up my cross. "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me" (Mt. 16:24). Instead of striving for greatness through competition, I will choose the path of humility. I will look for opportunities to serve others today rather than seeking to be recognized by them.
Today's Prayer
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall" (Pr. 16:18). "The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart" (Pr. 17:3). "Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor" (Pr. 18:12).
Lord, discipline my heart so that I may live in true humility. Remove my desire for worldly status and replace it with a heart that seeks only Your approval. Help me to walk the downward path of service today. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
