‘작아도 순수한 믿음은 안 해도 될 일도 하게한다’
1. 본문 관찰과 묵상
예수님은 귀신들린 아들을 둔 아버지에게 겨자씨 한 알 만한 작은 믿음이지만 금식하며 하나님께 기도하면 고칠 수 있다고 했다.
2. QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
또한 왕의 아들들은 성전 세금 반 세겔을 내지 않아도 되지만 세금 걷는 자들을 실족시키지 않으려 물고기 잡아 그 입에서 한 세겔을 꺼내 내라고 했다.
3. 결단과 적용
작아도 능력 있는 믿음은 금식과 기도를 통해서 받는다. 그 믿음은 병자도 낫게 하지만 믿음이 없는 자들을 위해 하지 않아도 될 일을 저들을 실족시키지 않으며 한다. 나도 오늘 내가 굳이 않해도 될 일을 작지만 순순한 하나님이 주신 믿음으로 행하며 살리라. “행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라…..나는 행함으로 나의 믿음을 보이리라” (약 2:18).
오늘의 기도
주여, 내 생각이 아니라 금식하며 기도해서 주님께 받은 작지만 순수한 믿음으로 오늘을 살게 하소서. 내가 왕의 아들로서 내지 않아도 되는 세금을 잘 내서 믿지 않는 자들로 실족하지 않게 배려하며 살게 하소서! 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다.
‘Little but Pure Faith: Going Beyond Obligation’
Mt. 17:14-27
1. Observation and Meditation
Jesus told the father of a demon-possessed boy that even faith as small as a mustard seed—nurtured through prayer and fasting—is enough to bring healing and move mountains.
2. Hearing the Voice of the Lord
Jesus explained that as children of the King, the disciples were technically exempt from paying the two-drachma temple tax. However, to avoid causing unnecessary offense, He instructed Peter to catch a fish, in whose mouth he found a four-drachma coin to pay the tax for both of them.
3. Decisions and Applications
Through prayer and fasting, I can receive a faith that is small in size but great in power. This pure faith does more than just work miracles; it grants me the humility to perform tasks I am not strictly obligated to do for the sake of peace and the gospel.
Today, I choose to act on this "mustard seed" faith by serving others even where I have no debt or duty. As James 2:17–18 says, "Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." I will demonstrate my invisible faith through my visible deeds.
Today's Prayer
Lord, empower me to live out the faith You have given me—even if it is as small as a mustard seed—with humility and purity. As a child of the King of Kings, I know my freedom, but grant me the grace to set aside my rights so that I do not cause others to stumble. Let my actions reflect Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
