‘경건의 능력으로 다스리며 살라!’
1. 본문 관찰과 묵상
사람에게 보이려고 하는 '외식'은 경건의 모양일 뿐이다. 반면, 경건의 능력은 기도, 구제, 금식, 그리고 재물을 나의 욕망을 채우는 수단이 아니라 하나님의 뜻과 영광을 위한 도구로 드리는 힘이다. 경건의 능력이 있는 사람은 세상 그 어떤 것에도 다스림을 받지 않으며, 오직 자신을 쳐서 복종시킴으로 하나님의 영광을 위해 살아간다.
2. QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
외식하는 종교 지도자들은 탐심으로 재물을 땅에 쌓아두었다. 그들은 가난한 자와 고아, 병든 자들을 외면했다. 경건의 모양은 화려했으나 그 실체인 능력은 없었던 것이다. "이같은 자들에게서 네가 돌아서라" (딤후 3:5) 고 성경은 말씀한다. 경건의 능력은 재물을 땅에 쌓지 않고, 하나님의 사업에 사용함으로써 하늘에 쌓는 것이다. 재물을 거룩하게 사용하는 구체적인 삶의 양식이 바로 경건의 능력입니다.
3. 결단과 적용
본문이 말하는 '밝은 눈'은 육신의 시력이 아닌 영적인 안목(영안)을 의미한다. 하나님의 뜻이 어디에 있는지 분별하는 사람은 경건의 능력으로 행한다. 즉, 하나님이 기뻐하시는 기도와 구제, 금식을 실천하며 재물을 거룩하게 사용해 하늘 창고를 채우는 자다. 오늘 하루, 내 삶의 겉치레인 경건의 모양을 내실 있는 경건의 능력으로 승화시키며 살리라.

주님, 사람에게 보이기 위한 경건의 모양에 머물지 않게 하소서. 나를 사랑하고 돈을 사랑하는 말세의 흐름에서 돌아서서, 오직 하나님의 영광을 위해 재물과 시간을 사용하는 경건의 능력을 허락하소서. 내 영안을 밝히시어 오늘 하루도 주님이 기뻐하시는 기도, 구제, 금식, 재물이 주님의 도구로 쓰임 받도록 경건의 능력으로 주님의 통치권 아래 드립니다.
‘The form of godliness vs the power of it’
Mt. 6:16-24 & 2 Tim. 3:1-5
1. Observation and Meditation
True godliness is often mimicked by hypocrisy. The "form" of godliness is a hollow performance designed to win public approval. In contrast, the "power" of godliness is found in a secret, sincere devotion to God through prayer, fasting, and generosity. While the "form" is enslaved by the desire for status, the "power" of godliness grants us the authority to master our earthly resources rather than being mastered by them.
2. Hearing the Voice of the Lord
The Lord warns us about those who appear religious but are actually driven by greed. The religious leaders of Jesus' time accumulated wealth while ignoring the plight of the poor and the weak. They held the "form" but denied the "power." The Bible is clear: “Turn away from such people.” True power is demonstrated when we stop hoarding treasures on earth—where moths and thieves destroy—and instead invest in the Kingdom of Heaven. This power changes how I view my bank account; it transforms money from a master into a tool for God’s glory.
3. Application and Decision
A "healthy eye" is a spiritual eye. If my spiritual vision is clear, I can discern God’s will and act with His power. This week, I choose to:
Discard the Form: Stop performing for the recognition of others.
Embrace the Power: Practice "secret" disciplines (prayer, giving, fasting) that build treasures in heaven.
Live with Purpose: Use my resources to serve the "least of these," ensuring my heart follows my treasure toward Christ.
Today’s Prayer: Lord, empower me to move beyond a mere appearance of faith. Deliver me from the "form" of godliness that seeks human praise, and fill me with the "power" of godliness that seeks only Your heart. Help me to be a lover of God rather than a lover of self. Amen.
