‘외식하는 자와 은밀히 행하는 자’  

1. 본문 관찰과 묵상

외식하는 자들은 사람들에게 보이고 인정받기 위해 구제와 기도, 금식을 행한다. 그러나 하나님의 인정을 구하는 자들은 보이지 않는 곳에서 은밀히 행한다. 주님께서 가르쳐 주신 기도는 단순히 내 욕망을 채우기 위해 하나님을 이용하는 것이 아니다. 오히려 하나님의 뜻이 내 삶에 이루어지고, 오직 하나님께만 영광을 돌리는 삶을 목적으로 한다.

2. 주님의 음성

"외식하는 자는 하나님이 아닌 사람의 시선을 의식한다. 그들은 하나님의 영광이 아닌 사람의 칭찬을 구하기에 결국 사람의 종 노릇을 하게 된다. 너는 누구의 시선 앞에 서 있느냐? 오직 나의 눈앞에서 행하라” 는 주님의 음성을 듣는다.

3. 오늘의 기도와 다짐

사람의 기쁨을 구하는 자는 그리스도의 종이 될 수 없음을 고백한다. 중심을 보시는 하나님 앞에서 겉치레가 아닌 진실함으로 살아가야 하리라.

• 갈라디아서 1:10: "이제 내가 사람들에게 좋게 하랴 하나님께 좋게 하랴 사람들에게 기쁨을 구하랴 내가 지금까지 사람들의 기쁨을 구하였다면 그리스도의 종이 아니니라."

• 예레미야 17:10: "나 여호와는 심장을 살피며 폐부를 시험하고 각각 그의 행위와 그의 행실대로 보응하나니."

• 로마서 10:10: "사람이 마음으로 믿어 의에 이르고 입으로 시인하여 구원에 이르느니라.

*오늘의 기도 

주님, 은밀한 중에 보시는 주님 앞에서 주님이 원하시는 뜻을 묵묵히 행하며 살게 하소서. 나를 드러내고자 하는 유혹을 이기게 하시고, 오직 주님만이 영광 받으시도록 원수까지도 사랑하며 용서하는 삶을 살게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.

The Hypocrites vs. The Doers in Secret’

Mt. 6:1-15

1. Observation and Meditation

Hypocrites pray, give alms, and fast publicly to be recognized by others. In stark contrast, those who desire God’s approval do everything in secret. Jesus teaches us that prayer is not merely begging God for our own desires; rather, it is a way to listen for His will so that it may be fulfilled in our lives to His glory.

2. Listening to the Voice of the Lord

Hypocrites are overly sensitive to the reactions of others. They seek human fame and recognition rather than God’s glory. Because of this, hypocrites are ultimately servants of people, not servants of God.

3. Decisions and Applications

I must ask myself: "Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ" (Galatians 1:10).

The Lord reminds me, "I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind" (Jeremiah 17:10). I also hold onto the truth that "it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved" (Romans 10:10).

Today's Prayer

Father God, who sees what is done in secret, help me to obey Your will privately so that Your name alone is glorified. Guard my heart from seeking the applause of others. Grant me the grace to forgive my enemies so that I may reflect Your character and give glory to You, not myself. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
