‘새 언약인 예수 사랑으로 구 언약을 완성하라’
1. 본문 관찰과 묵상
행위에서 마음으로 구 언약이 드러난 죄의 '열매'를 다스렸다면, 새 언약이신 예수님은 죄의 '뿌리'인 마음의 동기를 다스린다. 심판보다 더 강한 것은 사랑의 예방이다. 그리스도는 우리가 죄의 결과에 이르기 전, 마음의 생각부터 회개함으로 생명의 길을 걷게 하시는 유일한 소망이다.
2. 묵상을 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
산상수훈의 복은 소유의 복이 아니라 '존재의 복’ 이다. 주님의 용서를 경험한 자는 더 이상 세상의 공격에 일일이 반응하며 소모적인 싸움을 하지 않는다. 나를 비난하는 자 앞에서도 평안할 수 있는 이유는, 예수께서 십자가의 침묵으로 모든 율법의 요구를 완성하셨기 때문이다. 그분의 용서 안에 머물 때 진정한 자유가 시작된다.
3. 결단과 적용
오늘 나의 삶 속에 세 가지 우선순위를 세웁니다.
관계의 우선: 제단에 예물을 드리기 전, 형제와 화해하는 화목의 종으로 살리라 (마 5:24).
가치의 우선: 나의 필요보다 하나님의 나라와 의를 먼저 구하는 믿음으로 살리라 (마 6:33).
성찰의 우선: 타인의 티끌을 보기 전 내 안의 들보를 먼저 보며, 비판이 아닌 긍휼의 마음으로 살리라 (마 7:5).

주님, 나의 죄를 덮으시고 의롭다 하신 그 측량할 수 없는 사랑을 오늘 내 이웃에게 흘려보내는 통로가 되게 하소서. 문자적인 율법에 갇힌 자가 아니라, 사랑으로 율법을 완성하는 예수의 증인으로 살게 하소서. 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.
‘Fulfill the Old Covenant with the New Covenant’
Mt. 5:17-26
1. Observation and Meditation
Jesus is the New Covenant. He did not merely come to follow the Law; He came to fulfill and replace the Old Covenant with Himself. While the Old Covenant judged people based on the outward fruit of their sinful actions, the New Covenant searches the motivations of the heart. It prevents sin through divine intervention within the soul. Because Jesus is the only Way, the Truth, and the Life, all nations must understand that He is our only source of Faith, Hope, and Love. He transforms our sinful nature by convicting us of the roots of our sin, leading us to repentance so that we may truly live.
2. Hearing the Voice of the Lord
Matthew 5–7 contains the "Sermon on the Mount," often centered on the Beatitudes. As Christians born of the Spirit, we already enjoy these blessings here on earth and look forward to them in the future Kingdom of God. Because I have been saved by Jesus’ love, I choose not to fight against my adversaries. I forgive them just as I have been forgiven by Christ. This allows me to live daily life in total freedom. Even when adversaries judge me or afflict me with false accusations—acting like the "accuser" (Satan)—I refuse to defend myself through conflict. I remember that Jesus and the prophets before Him endured similar afflictions, yet He fulfilled the Law through His perfect love.
3. Decisions and Applications
To follow Christ is to live with reordered priorities:
First: I seek reconciliation with my brother or sister before offering myself in worship to God (Mt. 5:24).
Second: I seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness before my own desires and ambitions (Mt. 6:33).
Third: I must remove the plank from my own eye first; only then can I clearly help others remove the speck from theirs (Mt. 7:5).
I commit to living this out daily, fulfilling the spirit of the Law through the love of Jesus. As Jesus taught, all the Law and the Prophets hang on two commandments: to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves (Mt. 22:37–40). Truly, love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law (Rom. 13:10).
Today’s Prayer
Lord, help me to be a witness of Your love. You have expunged my sins, forgiven me, and called me righteous. Grant me the grace to pass that same love toward my adversaries and enemies. Empower me to fulfill the heart of the Law through Your love dwelling within me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
