‘남을 선대하면 나도 선대 받는다’

본문관찰과 묵상

      라합은 정탐꾼들에게 상천하지에 여호와 같은 하나님은 없다고 믿음을 고백했다.  홍해를 가르고 아모리의 두 왕 시혼과 옥 에게 하나님이 행한 일을 들었기 때문이라 했다. 믿음은 들음에서 난다

     그래서 라합이 두 정탐꾼에게 부탁했다.  ‘내가 너를 선대(헤세드) 했으니 너희도 내 아비의 집을 선대하도록 맹세하고 증표를 달라’고 했다.  비밀을 지키면 그대로 선대하리라는 약속을 받았다.   창기 라합은 이로 말미암아 예수의 조상이 되었다.    

결단과 적용

     내가 누구래도 신실하게 약속을 지켜 선대하면 나도 선대 받는다.   ‘스스로 속이지 말라 하나님은 만홀히 여김을 받지 아니하시나니 사람이 무엇으로 심든지 그대로 거두리라’(갈 6:7).  오늘도 선대(헤세드)의 씨를 심으며 살아 선대(헤세드) 를 거두며 살리라.

Observation and meditation on the text

     Rahab confessed her faith by declaring that there was no such God like the Lord in heaven above and on the earth below.  She heard such stories as God divided the Red Sea and destroyed the two kings of the Amorites, Sihon and Ok and saved the Israelites.  Faith comes from hearing of the Lord.

     Therefore, Rahab asked a favor(hesed) to the spies.  ‘Since I have treated you with kindness(hesed), you will show kindness(hesed) to my family, and swear and give me a sure sign.’  The spies promised that if she kept it in secrecy they would treat Rahab and her family with kindness(hesed) too.  By doing this, Rahab became an ancestor of Jesus Christ. 

Decisions and applications

     If I treat others with kindness(hesed), then I shall be treated by others with kindness(hesed).  ‘Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked.  A man reaps what he sows’ (Gal. 6:7).  Therefore, today, I will keep on sowing hesed so that I may reap hesed.
