‘만사는 우연이 아닌 예언의 성취’  

1. 본문관찰과 묵상

주의 사자가 꿈에 나타나 헤롯이 아기를 찾아 죽이려 하니 애굽으로 피신하라고 명했다. 이는 "애굽으로부터 내 아들을 불렀다"하신 선지자의 예언을 성취하기 위함이었다. 한편, 헤롯은 베들레헴과 그 지경 안에 있는 두 살 아래의 모든 사내아이를 학살하며 잔인함을 드러냈고, 이로써 선지자 예레미야의 애곡하는 예언이 성취되었다. 헤롯이 죽은 후, 예수님의 가족은 다시 주의 사자의 지시를 따라 이스라엘 땅으로 돌아왔다.

2. QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성

요셉 가족은 헤롯의 아들 아켈라오의 폭정을 피해 갈릴리 나사렛 동네로 가서 살게 되었다.  이 또한 선지자를 통해 "나사렛 사람이라 칭하리라" 하신 예언의 성취였다. 아기 예수님의 탄생부터 성장 과정의 모든 일은 결코 우연이 아니었다. 하나님께서는 구약의 선지자들을 통해 미리 말씀하신 일들을 역사의 현장 속에서 하나하나 세밀하게 이루어 가셨다.

3. 결단과 적용

지나온 삶을 되돌아보니, 나의 삶의 모든 순간 역시 우연이 아니라 하나님의 선하신 뜻이 이루어지는 과정이었다. 하나님께서는 당신의 섭리로 나를 아셨고, 거룩하신 경륜으로 내 길을 인도하셨다. 때로는 이해하기 힘든 고난도 하나님의 뜻 안에 있음을 고백한다. 하나님은 사랑하는 자에게 징계와 고난을 허락하시며, 그 연단을 통해 우리를 '신의 성품'에 참여하게 하신다. 그러므로 고난은 위장된 하나님의 축복이다(히 12:6-10).

• "내가 가는 길을 그가 아시나니 그가 나를 단련하신 후에는 내가 순금 같이 되어 나오리라" (욥 23:10)

• "고난 당한 것이 내게 유익이라 이로 말미암아 내가 주의 율례들을 배우게 되었나이다" (시 119:71)

* 오늘의 기도

주님, 제가 주님 앞에 서는 그날까지 내가 가는 모든 길을 주께서 아심을 믿습니다. 고난의 터널을 지날 때 저를 단련하여 정금 같게 하시고, 주님의 성품을 닮아가는 기회로 삼게 하소서. 고난을 회피하기보다, 주신 사명을 붙들고 복음과 함께 기꺼이 고난 받는 삶을 살게 하옵소서.

‘Not by Chance, but by God’s Prophecy.’

Mt. 2:13–23

1. Observation and Meditation

After the Magi departed, an angel appeared to Joseph in a dream, commanding him to flee to Egypt to protect the child from King Herod’s murderous intent. This journey was not a mere escape; it was the fulfillment of the prophecy: "Out of Egypt I called my son." When Herod realized the Magi had outwitted him, he flew into a rage and ordered the massacre of all male children in Bethlehem aged two and under, fulfilling the lamentation prophesied by Jeremiah. Following Herod’s death, God again directed Joseph to return, eventually leading the family to Nazareth. Thus, the prophecy that Jesus would be called a Nazarene was fulfilled.

2. Hearing the Voice of the Lord

Even after Herod’s death, the path was not simple. Because Archelaus reigned over Judea with the same cruelty as his father, God divinely redirected Joseph to the region of Galilee. I am struck by the fact that from the moment of Christ's birth, every detail was orchestrated by God. Nothing happened by accident; every movement was a step toward fulfilling a divine promise.

3. Decisions and Applications

Looking back on my own life, I realize that nothing has happened by chance. God knows my path; He has guided me through His divine providence and administration. Even the seasons of affliction were not outside of His will. I now understand that God disciplines those He loves, and this discipline produces a harvest of righteousness.

Afflictions are truly "blessings in disguise" (Hebrews 12:6–10). Like Job, I can say, "He knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold" (Job 23:10). And like the Psalmist, I confess, "It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees" (Psalm 119:71).

Today’s Prayer 

Lord, You know the path I walk today and every day until I return to You. I ask that You continue to refine me so that I may come forth as gold and share in Your holiness. Grant me the strength not to flee from suffering, but to embrace it for the sake of the Gospel, knowing You are with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
