‘우선순위는 공동체의 유익을 위함이다.’
본문 관찰과 묵상
갓과 르우벤 자손이 협상안을 내놓았다. 그 땅에 우리와 성읍을 짓고 자녀와 가축을 원주민에게서 보호하게 허락을 요청했다. 그후 요단을 건너 선발대로 기업을 얻을 때까지 싸우고 요단 서편의 땅은 기업으로 받지 않겠다고 약속했다. 요단 동편에 살 것을 약속했다.
QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
모세가 그들의 요청을 조건부로 수락했다. ‘여호와 앞에서’ 저들이 말한 것을 다 지키는 조건으로 믿어주고 허락했다. 갓과 르우벤 지파는 그후 요단 동편에서 살았고 저들은 계속 악을 행함으로 책망받게 된다.
결단과 적용
‘여호와 앞에서’ ‘코람데오’로 한 말은 끝까지 지켜야 한다. 사람 앞에서 말하고 사람앞에서 그 약속을 파기하여 ‘여호와 앞에서’ 한 약속을 지키지 않는 사람들과는 하나가 될 수 없다. 내 유익보다 공동체의 유익이 우선순위가 되고 그것을 끝까지 지켜야 한다.

Observation and meditation on the text
The Gadites and Reubenites presented negotiation proposals to Moses. They asked for the protection of their flocks and family from the Canaanites by allowing them to build pens and cities. Then, they would willingly cross the Jordan River to fight against the Canaanites until they would conquer and inherit the promised land for Israel. However, they would not request for any inheritance in the western part of the Jordan River. They promised to live in the eastern part of the Jordan River.
I hear the voice of the Lord through QT
Moses gave them permission under one condition. If they should keep whatever they promised ‘before the Lord,’ they would be entrusted. Later the Gadites and Reubenites settled in the east side of the Jordan River. However, they were rebuked by the prophets that Gilead would become the city of the sinners.
Decisions and applications
I must keep my words I promised ‘before the Lord,’ as I live in Coram Deo, in the presence of God. Therefore, I cannot get associated with those who break their promises they made ‘before the Lord,’ but break them to please people. My priority should not be for my own benefit but for the benefit of my community, and I must keep it.
