‘나를 향한 하나님의 뜻을 분별하라!.’
본문 관찰과 묵상
모압왕 발락은 처음보다 더 높은 고관들을 보내 발람을 더 많은 보상으로 크고 존귀하게 해주겠다고 유혹했다. 이에 넘어간 발람은 그들을 자기 처소에 유숙하게 했다. 그의 이중인격적인 탐심을 보고 하나님은 반어법으로 원하는 대로 마음대로 하라고 했다.
QT를 통해 듣는 주님의 음성
발람은 이미 탐심으로 하나님의 뜻을 거슬러 그들과 함께 갔다. 그가 탄 나귀가 칼을 든 여호와의 사자를 보고 도망하자 발람이 지팡이로 세 번 때렸고 이에 나귀가 입을 열어 저항했다.
결단과 적용
탐심은 하나님의 경고도 듣지 않게 한다. 짐승의 입을 열어서 말해도 보지도 듣지도 않았다. 하나님의 뜻을 분별하려면 먼저 욕심을 내려놓기 위해 매일 QT와 기도로 예수의 마음을 품고 살아야 한다. 그렇지 않으면 ‘욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라’ (약 1:15).

Observation and meditation on the text
Balak king of Moab sent more numerous and distinguished officials than first to Balaam, and tempted him by guaranteeing more rewards. Balaam was persuaded by them, and let them stay with him even though he verbally said he must ask God what to do. God was much disappointed by Balaam’s hypocritical attitude and told him to do whatever he wanted to do.
I hear the voice of the Lord through QT
Driven and engulfed by his covetousness, Balaam became blind and deaf. God even had his donkey open his eyes and ears to warn the blind and deaf Balaam, he could not discern God’s will. Therefore, if I want to discern God’s will, I must be set free from fleshly desire.
Decisions and applications
My fleshly desire makes me numb to God’s warnings. Even if a mere animal or nature gives me warning signs, I am not sensitive to it. How can I be set free from my covetousness? I must conceive the same mindset of Jesus by doing daily QT with prayers. If not, ‘after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death’ (James 1:15).
